THE PHONY DAILY SHOW The majority of North Americans acquire great joy when watching television and invest an immense amount of time doing so in order to be entertained and informed. As part of our contemporary life style, we have grown accustomed and very dependant on television due to many obvious reasons. Because of that, governments throughout history of television broadcast have taken advantage of this opportunity to spread their propaganda through media in order to influence and manufacture the public opinion. Many televisions programs since then have risen to promote their ideas and sometimes criticize their actions. The ever so popular Jon Stewart’s Daily show cleverly does this by incorporating the element of comedy as a tool to attract viewers to promote ideas through depicting political news in a comical manner. Superficially, the show appears to criticize George Bush and his administration in a comical way on issues related to war, terrorism, and the invasion of Iraq. Ironically, through careful and in-depth analysis of the way things are portrayed on that show, it becomes very difficult to neglect the true motive of the show. To cleverly promote the propaganda to the American people in a hypocritical manner where what is portrayed conveys an entirely different meaning than what is said. As a result, viewers subconsciously attain the intended ideas which are promoted subliminally. Clear examples of this can be seen when then show features Guests from the Middle East that attempt to argue the bogus claim that the presence of the American army in Iraq is needed to promotes security. This of course is a ridiculous statement to the minority of people that are aware of the true reality of the current situation in Iraq. It is very evident that more innocents are dying in Iraq by the day and the levels of chaos are rising. The American Army can barely defend it self and shoots anything that moves. Their presence in Iraq is only to defend the phony puppet government they appointed and to protect the lucid American Interest in the region. A recent guest of the Daily show was a person who claimed to be the Personal Councilor of Saddam Hussein and a one of his biggest army Generals. He supported the newly proposed idea that Saddam smuggles his weapons of mass destruction to Syria before the war which is a ridiculous and untrue statement. First of all, there is no evidence to support this claim. Second of all, the American spy satellites would have captured that, but how could they if it did not happen. Also, why then did they not attack Syria if the weapons were transported there? They surely have no problem further killing a few more million Syrian innocents. Furthermore, one could not help but question why this person, who was one of Saddam’s army Generals and personal councilors, is touring around the US enjoying himself and not in prison where all war criminals belong? Another unacceptable mistake was promoted on that show that should have not been was the referral of the Prophet Mohammad’s cartoons presented in a Danish news paper as Danish cartoons. This is a major mistake that generalizes and stereotypes the whole countries opinion to coincide with one person opinion, the cartoonist who exercised his liberty to present his own personal opinion. Consequently, Danish flags were burned all over the world and many of their goods were boycotted. The problem is that our knowledge is bounded only to what we see and hear and if our sources of knowledge are controlled by governments that sensor information and present it in a deceived manner geared to serve their interest, achieving people’s approval of their inhumane actions.
