Statement Iraq Freedom Congress on The Political Crisis In Iraq The Moderate Front Is A Repercussion Of The Failure Of The US Project Yesterday a formation of the Moderate Front was announced. This front is consisted of Islamic Supreme Council, Al-Dawa Party and both Kurdish Parties PUK and PDK. This formation followed the withdrawal of Ayad Alawi fraction (National accord), suspension of Iraqi Accord Front and the resignation of al-Sadr group from the government. This means that Al-Maliki government lost its legal authority after the resignation of more than half of its members.
This new alliance comes
as a desperate attempt to prevent the collapse of the government,
which is based at the same time on sectarian militias. The policy of the occupation since the first day of the formation of the Governing Council was based on ethnic and sectarian quota that has disgracefully divided the Iraqi society and today's conflict among the sectarian and nationalist groups that endorsed the occupation and joined the political process is a direct result of this quota. Also All the projects put forward by the occupation forces to save Al-Maliki government from the deadlock such as national reconciliation, formation of a government of national unity, draft of a new era and Cairo, Baghdad and Sharm el-Sheikh conferences... have come to strengthen the sectarian division, which is the policy of occupation in the first place. The current situation in Iraq such as the political impasse of Al-Maliki government were anticipated and speculated by IFC. The resignations, withdrawals and suspension of membership from Al-Maliki government are reflections to the conflict between the parties over power sharing, areas of influence and the distribution of wealth that have nothing to do with the hopes and aspirations of Iraqis in terms of achieving security, freedom and prosperity. Worse still, a number of parties within Al-Maliki government and National Assembly directed their militias to kill innocent people on the basis of identity in order to change the balance of power to their favor and strengthening their positions at the negotiation table with their rivals. Iraq Freedom Congress reaffirms its resolutions on the political situation in Iraq issued in November 17, 2006 to salvage the Iraqi society from the cycle of violence and terrorism which are listed below: 1. Ending the occupation immediately. 2. Sacking the current government and all its associated establishment 3. Forming a non-ethnic and secular government through a conference in which all political forces, parties and representatives of workers, students, and women are invited, this conference will be under the supervision of the United Nations and other international organizations. 4. The newly formed government is to provide security, freedom and prosperity to the society. 5. Dissolving and disarming all militias in the entire country 6. After its formation, the government will set a six month timetable to make preparation for a general election on the national level 7. Making all financial and logistical resources available for each candidate equally 8. Deployment of international observers to all Iraqi cities to ensure the democratic process without interference or intimidation from any group or individual against voters. 9. Facilitate full access to all media personnel to conduct full coverage of the election
IFC calls on Iraqis to fall into the trap of these sectarian political parties and forces, not to be drawn behind projects that will only lead to more killing and displacement. At the same time we call on you to get around the banner of Iraq freedom to expel the occupation and form a non-ethnic and secular government that defines people based on their a humanitarian identity.
