A Delegation of Iraqi Freedom Congress Meets with Human Rights Commissioners of the United Nations in Baghdad


A delegation of the Iraqi Freedom Congress met with the United Nations Human Rights commissioners in Baghdad on Sunday 16 / 12/2007. The delegates represented IFC were Said Nima; Office of Relations and Falih Maktoof, legal Consultant and Martin Bonstd UN Human Rights Program official. The meeting lasted nearly two hours and discussed many urgent issues such as: Iraqi refugees at home and abroad and their suffering, women's rights and her misery, workers rights, which are part of human rights, indiscriminate arrests and the non- humane treatment of prisoners and detainees.

Said Nima spoke about the suffering of the refugees abroad and provided a number of reports that had been issued by the General Federation of Refugees and few other newspapers. Nima, welcomed any cooperation with the agency to provide help and services that can ease the burdens on refugees, he also spoke about the suffering of refugees at home and their way of living and the neglect of the government to deal with their serious issues.

Nima then talked about the horror that committed against women, especially the killing that they exposed to in Basra which in turn spread to Najaf, Karbala and in Iraqi Kurdistan as well; he delivered IFC report as well as its statements in this regard.

Said Nima talked also about the workers rights, their suffering, massive lay offs and the repression of female workers. And then spoke about the arbitrary arrests without legal justification, which affect innocents. In addition he touched on the role of IFC and its affiliate organizations, potential cooperation and joint ventures.

Martin Bonstd thanked IFC for its work and the role they played. He said that his office is wiling to cooperate and assist in any possible way and added "We know that the security situation does not permit for a large return of refugees, and we presented our report in this regard stating that the refugees did not return voluntarily, but because of the pressure of the States they resorted to was behind their return. Also there are many refugees imprisoned in Lebanon who were given a choice of either to go back to Iraq or stay in prison"

The meeting has concluded successfully with an agreement of constant contact and joint action.
