Founding Statement

On International Workers Day

On May 1st of every year workers worldwide celebrate this special day. They demonstrate their class strength in a world where they and their families are under a fierce attack by governments and international Mafia representatives of the World. The abuse of workers’ dignity, suppression of their rights and freedoms and living under the poverty line are the most apparent phenomenon in the last decade. The recent police and media attack on the workers who demand their rights in Sharjah, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Egypt is a living model for such violations. Elsewhere in the world there is a large growing protest to raise workers’ living standards and save their most basic rights.

In Iraq, where the working class forms the majority of its population, these workers have been under a barbaric attack unprecedented in modern history. Workplaces and the livelihood of workers have become targets for the occupying forces and sectarian terrorist groups.

Moreover, the pro-occupation government has issued many decrees that confiscate more workers rights than did the former regime. Poverty, huge shortfalls in social services, unemployment and lack of social security are just episodes in this monstrous tragedy imposed on the working class.

On May 1st this year, workers’ voices will be raised against the occupation and its projects. The workers will come out on this day to say "We will not allow the sectarian gangs ferocious actions against us.” And we’ll say "No to state intervention into workers’ business."

On this May 1st the workers will put forward their agenda to end poverty, unemployment, disease, illiteracy and the struggle to enact a modern Labor Law in Iraq.

Iraq Freedom Congress has formed a May 1st reception committee to carryout a number of actions and activities to mark this event. Also, IFC calls upon all libertarians to join these events to uphold the banner of freedom and equality, the banner of the working class.
