Iraqi Freedom Congress/ Babylon Chapter Holds Its First Annual Conference in Alexandria
The meeting was opened with a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of war and occupation. Then the participants voted on the presiding board and the agenda of the conference, which included the political situation in Iraq, the standing of Iraqi Freedom Congress, a dialogue with IFC leadership and chapter elections. On the political situation in Iraq and IFC standing; Samir Adel spoke about the new factors that emerged in David Petroais-Ryan Crocker report that was publicized on April 9, 2008. He also spoke about the political crisis afflicting the occupation scenario which is called the (political process). He talked about the ongoing fighting between government militia and Sadr's militia, which he described as a crisis of political Islam in Iraq's Shiite... He added that resolving the political situation in Iraq does not come through the political process which is built on the policy of national and sectarian division and continuation of conflict over powers and influence. Therefore the only alternative is to expel the occupation and resolving all its institutions, and forming a secular non-ethnic state in which people are identified on the basis of humanitarian identity. He also said that changing the current conditions is not easy; however it is not impossible as long as there are human beings like you decided to raise the banner of Iraq Freedom Congress. In the end the participants elected 7 members to the leadership of the chapter and concluded the event with enthusiasm and determination.
