May Day In The Center Of Baghdad
Terrorism Tried To Undermine The Assembly Through An Explosive Device

At 10:00 am the May Day reception committee held a mass gathering in the centre of Baghdad to mark the International Workers Day. The venue was  decorated by hundreds of red flags and banners that belonged to parties and organizations who joined the committee such as the General Federation of workers Councils and Unions in Iraq, the Federation of Arab workers, the Union of Independent Democrats, the Worker-communist Party of Iraq, Iraq Freedom Congress and dozens of dignitaries, activists and labor leaders. Also Hundreds of people from Alexandria, Mahmoudiyah, Hindya cities and many areas of Baghdad attended the event as well as municipal workers who were working in the area and dozens of other people.

Many signs and slogans against the occupation and sectarian gangs were raised such as "No Shiite  ... No Sunni...Ours is humanitarian identity, no the occupation  ... No to sectarian gangs, long live workers' rule, long live May Day, we struggle for enactment of a libertarian Labor Law and so on.

Ilham Altalabani started by chanting the May Day slogans, and then gave the attendees a congratulatory word to commence the event, then followed by Subhi Al-Badri Chairman of May Day Committee and GFWCUI who greeted the workers on this day and talked about the political and economic projects of occupation that are against the workers such as not allowing a formation of unions in the public sector and the pro-corporate draft oil law. He also said that socialism is the way to save the tragedies of Iraqi and the workers are the only fraction in the society that is able to end these situations.

Then Samir Adel President of IFC delivered his speech in which he said that the dock workers on the US West Coast  on this day are on strike for hours to protest the occupation of Iraq (Everyone chanted greetings and support to port workers in California and a storm of applause)

Before the end of the event the police informed the security committee of the celebration of an explosive device that was placed in a bag set to attack the gathering and asked the participants to vacate the venue. The participants however left the venue with chanting slogans that denounce the occupation and sectarian gangs and greetings of the IWD.
