Only a Free Iraq with a Secular Government Can Bring About Security and Stability
On the Sixth Anniversary of the Occupation of Iraq
The 9th of April marks the sixth anniversary of the occupation of Iraq. Since this ill-fated day, hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been killed, millions have been displaced inside and outside of Iraq, and the society has been transformed into a jungle where criminal gangs and sectarian militias walk free to impose inhumane laws that are contrary to all norms and values of humanity. Through lack of basic civil services, neighborhoods have been turned into piles of waste which cause disease epidemics that have added another agony for Iraqis. Parallel to that, corruption has spread out to all fields of society including all ministries, departments and institutions. The occupation has turned Iraq into the second largest corrupted country in the world and a country where more than five million live below the poverty line.
After six years of war and occupation, the occupiers have not been able to achieve their hellish agenda. Nor have they been able to form a strong pro-U.S. country. As the global economic crisis cripples the United States’ superiority and its role in the world, the U.S. - led occupation’s failure in Iraq and the region will deepen. The repercussions of this failure will pave the way for regional states to intervene on a larger scale through the support of militias and gangs that will fill the political and security vacuum, and thus strengthen their influence and its strategic interests in Iraq.
After six years, no peace, no security, and no stability have been achieved by the occupation and it's abhorrently divisive sectarian policies. The sun will not rise again in Iraq by prolonging or re-electing a sectarian and nationalistic government. A government that falls apart over disagreements on power and wealth-sharing and invites militias to take control cannot bring safety and security. The series of recent bombings in Baghdad add to the bitterness following six years of the occupation and its failed policies.
Join the IFC ranks as it stands in the forefront of the struggle to remove Iraq from the clutches of the occupation and its agenda and to establish a secular non-ethnic government. It is the path to security and stability.
