US Workers Welcome IFC
Delegation With Warmth and Sympathy
In response to the invitation made by
Labor Notes steering committee and
US Labor Against War (USLAW) to attend its biennial conference a
delegation of Iraq Freedom Congress (IFC) consisted of Samir Adil,
President of IFC, Amjad Al-Jawhary, North America Representative of
Federation of Worker Councils and Unions in Iraq (FWCUI), and Summer
Aziz, of Defense of Iraqi Women rights organization in Canada, have
participated in the event to deliver workshops and seminars
pertaining to the war in Iraq and the solidarity movement with the
Iraqi people to end the occupation. In the workshop, Amjad has explained the impact of the tour sponsored by USLAW last year in terms of the dramatic increase of the FWCUI members and achieving the demands made by the workers in the latest protest in Baghdad where 4000 housing units were pledged to be provided by the mayor of Baghdad, and in addition the abolishment of decree 150 (banning unions in the public sector) in which the freedom of association is outlawed. Following this presentation, Samir Adil addressed the audience by explaining the current conditions in Iraq under occupation, the role of occupation and its appointed puppet government in turning the lives of millions of Iraqis into hell, the sectarian violence and the role of US troops who never intervene to protect the people, and the IFC alternative and its way out of this dilemma. The audience showed great sympathy for the cause of the Iraqi people and received the presenters warmly with a lengthy standing ovation and pledged to continue support. This event was part of a tour for the IFC in US organized by American Friends Service Committee to educate the American public regarding the current situation in Iraq and the hopeful alternative offered by IFC to end these burdens.
